In unveiling my updated website, I can’t help but notice what’s concealed in attempting to reveal. My new headshots, taken last fall by the amazing Michael Wilson (click his name on my links page to see his website), show me cleanshaven with a full head of dark hair. Since then, cancer chemotherapy has left me bald with a gray goatee, an older version of Breaking Bad’s Walter White. The own photos of the Southwestern high desert hide the reality that I’m spending this summer in steamy Baltimore, prevented from traveling by my treatments and their side effects.
Casual readers may not notice at first that I’m now retired from pediatric practice, much more a writer than before.
Websites serve as snapshots, documenting momentary intervals, not ongoing events, try as we might to keep them current. But my cancer prognosis is guardedly good and I’d been planning to revamp my online presence anyway. It was time to reflect what’s new in my creative endeavors, what’s keeping me busy when I’m not being a patient.
While I’m hardly renouncing the past, the changes are meant to highlight the writing, not so much a second career as a deferred one. In these virtual pages, you’ll find my bio page updated, more information on books I’ve contributed to, and links to my writing online. I’ll have more to share there soon. In the meantime, I plan to maintain the blog more faithfully, adding posts regularly as time permits. I welcome readers new to this window on my life and I hope returning visitors find something here of interest.
